Sèvres. Bisque Porcelain Set Titled "the Lovers And The Three Graces." 18th Century.

A very important and remarkable group of white porcelain figurines, bearing a Sèvres mark on the base, dating from the 18th century.

This elegant allegorical composition depicts a couple of lovers tenderly entwined, surrounded by three winged cupids, within a rich setting evoking Love and Abundance.

The two young figures, dressed in antique-style drapery, occupy the central part of the composition. The closeness of their faces, the delicacy of their gestures, and the elegance of their poses lend the scene great grace and tenderness.

Beside them, three winged cupids enliven the composition around an architectural element featuring a fluted column. One holds a generous basket of fruit, while the others are accompanied by flowers and other attributes. In the foreground, a second, abundantly filled and overturned basket completes this evocation of abundance.

The entire scene is enriched by a very delicate decoration of floral garlands, foliage, and finely modeled flowers and fruits.

Of particular note are the finesse of the faces and hair, the elegance of the drapery, the delicacy of the hands, and the remarkable precision of the modeling of the flowers, fruits, and the wings of the cupids. The matte white bisque beautifully highlights the reliefs and the richness of this significant composition.

Condition

The group is in very fine condition given its age and the extreme fragility of a composition of this magnitude.

Particularly noteworthy for a bisque piece featuring so many figures and protruding elements: no fingers are missing; all the fingers of the figures and the three cupids are present.

A few truly minor imperfections are nevertheless worth noting, primarily a few small missing flowers in the base decoration, as well as a firing crack. These imperfections are inconspicuous and in no way detract from the overall beauty of the piece.

To preserve this work and its many delicate details, the group is displayed in an elegant, custom-made glass case resting on a beautiful molded wooden base. The display case and its base are included with the bisque.
