"les Damiers" Box Set, Opalescent Glass, Brass Lid By Marius Sabino

Extremely rare "LES DAMIERS" box set by Sabino.
Reference 7514 in Philippe Decelle’s catalog raisonné.
This rare box could not support its heavy glass lid (chips and breaks), so very few examples were sold or still exist. (1931 catalog price: 645 francs!!)
Our example was professionally restored by a cabinetmaker, who fitted it with a brass lid featuring an acid-etched design.
The hinges are numbered 3 and 4 (we assume the existence of another example numbered 1 and 2; however, this version has never appeared at public auction, nor has any complete box ever been listed for sale).
This charming piece, featuring a raised checkerboard pattern, is one of Sabino’s finest creations.
No chips, no cracks; some minor scratches from normal use and a few air bubbles are present. One screw has been replaced. Some wear on the base (from contact).
