Statue Of Citipati - Nepal, Asia
This repoussé metal statue depicts the face of Citipati, one of the two masters of the cemetery and a protector of the Dharma (Dharmapala) in the Tibetan Buddhist tradition. The deeply sunken eye sockets and sneering jaw form an ascetic skull, crowned by a blazing, three-lobed jewel (Triratna). On either side, the ear ornaments unfurl in dynamic volutes evoking purifying flames. This skeletal depiction serves as a reminder of the impermanence of the ego and the triumph of wisdom over worldly illusions.
