Tlingit Dagger - Alaska Usa
This bronze Tlingit dagger was used as a ritual and symbolic emblem of clan affiliation. It is distinguished by the presence of a totemic animal as its pommel: a bear, which, for the Tlingit, evokes strength. The eyes and ear recesses are inlaid with abalone shell. The handle is wrapped with leather thongs to protect the hand. The blade has a wide fuller in its center to hold the entire assembly. This dagger is a ceremonial object, not a weapon.
