Description

Reliquary containing a contact relic set against a red silk background, framed by an elegant gold-plated metal filigree. The back is sealed with silk threads and an intact red ecclesiastical wax seal, guaranteeing that the reliquary has never been opened since its authentication.

The old handwritten label is partially worn but remains legible overall.
The most likely reading is:
De Lancea Longini quae Latus Domini Nostri apervit
This phrase can be translated as: “From the spear of Longinus, which pierced the side of Our Lord.” ”

This reading is particularly consistent with Christian tradition and directly references the passage from the Gospel according to Saint John (19:34), where the soldier Longinus pierces Christ’s side with his spear. It also corresponds to the inscriptions found on certain ancient reliquaries dedicated to the Holy Lance.

Condition:

In very good condition. Original glass, intact episcopal wax seal, silk threads present. Slight wear consistent with its age.

In accordance with canon law (can. 1190 §1), this sale pertains solely to the reliquary as an object of sacred art. The relics it contains are not part of the transaction but are included as a courtesy due to their historical and cultural value.
