The clock’s base is decorated with Apollo’s harp, flanked on the right by a moon and on the left by a sun, symbolizing the study of the arts.
On the body of the clock, a figure of Fame holds the dial. The edges of the clock are adorned with genies carrying stylized flames. Winged torches are featured on the sides, symbolizing light and knowledge, as well as the elevation of the soul.
The pendulum’s damping mechanism is adorned with a female figure filling the oil reservoir of an antique-style lamp, based on a drawing by Percier and Fontaine from the *Recueil de décorations intérieures* (1812).
Condition: minor wear, mechanism in working order, striking mechanism needs servicing, glass behind not original
