Minor restoration from the past.
Working under contract with art dealers, Galien-Laloue—who is better known forhis gouache views of Paris—used numerous pseudonyms under which heproduced landscapes and lively scenes with virtuosity and an “incredible”to satisfy his many admirers.
Our painting, executed with great verve and in an exceptional format for the artist, is fortunately mounted on the back of the stretcher, which is rare.
These banks of the Oise, lined with farms of typical architecture and bustling with barge traffic, frame tranquil waters beneath a nuanced sky.
