Persian Wootz Khanjar
The “khanjar” is a type of dagger originating in Persia and widely adopted in most Islamic cultures. In addition to its practical use, the “khanjar” was also worn to indicate rank or social status. The more ornate it was, the higher the rank. Many Mughal rulers owned a collection of “khanjar” daggers with elaborate designs, crafted from precious materials such as jade, gold, and gemstones.
Our example:
A fine Persian example, featuring an elegant I-shaped handle made of dark green nephrite. The blade, typically curved and double-edged, features a fine, dark, contrasting wootz pattern. It is forged with two wide fuller grooves running almost the entire length of the blade, separated by a central ridge, and has a reinforced tip and a widened hilt.
