Short Afghan Sword, Also Known As A Khyber Sword - Afghanistan, 19th Century
Short Afghan saber, also known as a Khyber saber - Afghanistan, 19th century. The hilt has two bone scales and a chased brass mount. The blade is single-edged with a T-shaped back. The wooden scabbard is covered in tan leather. The scabbard is a local replacement from the 1970s. Formerly in a German private collection. Collected in situ in the early 1970s. The two bone scales appear to be original; however, the two rivets holding them are clearly a much more expensive replacement. Both scales have a very slight play in their fittings. Good condition. Overall length 81 cm. Length without scabbard 75.5 cm. Blade length 63 cm. Weight 1096 g. Weight without scabbard 757 g.
