A beautiful antique torch with a wide base, made of chiseled and mercury-gilded bronze from the Louis XIV period.
The decoration features engraved facing scrolls and
foliage motifs. The bowl is antique and possibly added later; it is in an Oriental style.
These types of torches were placed in glass candleholders.
Period: late 17th or early 18th century.
Condition: as found; the base is slightly warped, and the gilding shows signs of wear from use and age in places, but the piece as a whole is of fine quality.
