Kindjal Dagger From Dagestan, North Caucasus. Blade Inlaid With Silver
This dagger is a “Kindjal” originating from Dagestan in the North Caucasus. It dates from the 19th century.
These kindjals are traditional Russian and Caucasian weapons. This one features a blade decorated with silver, which obviously adds a special touch; the scabbard isthe original one .
BLADE: It is a double-edged blade that curves gradually to form the tip. On each side, there is a deep fuller offset from the center of the blade, which is characteristic of Russian and Caucasian blades and helps distinguish them from blades forged by the Circassians from Syria.Silver decoration in very good condition on each side, created using the technique known as “koft-gari” and depicting botanical motifs.
Blade length = 23.5 cm, width at the shoulder= 3.7cm, thickness at the shoulder = 2.7 cm.
HILT : it consists of two bone plates,attached to the tang by two iron rivets and flat washers cut in a double-pointed shape.
SCABBARD : It is made of wood, covered with the original leather. The scabbard opening and the chjape are made of repoussé brass depicting a large flower.
Complete weapon, entirely original, never disassembled, never restored.
