Antique Bohemian Garnet Pendant, Victorian Era, 1880
We are offering for sale a large and magnificent Victorian pendant in the shape of a star-shaped medallion, dating from the late Historicist period (1875–1880). This magnificent pendant is set with genuine Bohemian pyrope garnets: the stones shimmer with a highly sought-after “dove’s blood” red when light reflects off their facets. The condition of the stones is absolutely impeccable, and they are 100% complete. There is no warping, chipping, or modern restoration.
The setting and craftsmanship are made of traditional and historic “garnet gold,” a tombac alloy.
The piece was crafted using the sophisticated “Closed Back” technique.
Featuring its original, very sturdy hanging loop, it hangs perfectly on a velvet cord or chain. The star has a diameter of 5 cm, measured without the eyelet.
