Antique Diamond Earrings, 585 Gold, Rose Cut, Victorian Era, 1870, Earrings

For sale: a pair of magnificent chandelier earrings dating from the Victorian era

of the British Raj (circa 1860–1870). Indian Empire.

Two worlds come together here: Indian artisans cut the diamonds using the “polki” technique, while the earrings’ design was adapted to the European Victorian taste of British high society.

The theme of these earrings is historicism, with an Anglo-Indian influence from the Victorian era around 1860. The botanical and floral motif evokes renewal, youth, and hope, as well as exoticism. Following the colonization of India, British high society was fascinated by the splendor of the Indian Mughal emperors.

The theme of this magnificent piece of jewelry pays homage to that cultural richness. – The earring clasp consists of rods fitted with large nuts. The clasp was added later to ensure optimal comfort and security.

The pendants measure approximately 5 cm long and weigh 14 g.

A piece of jewelry of captivating beauty.
