Antique Gilded Bronze Ring, From Southern Germany, In The Bajuvarian Style, A Ring From...
A true rarity intended for collectors of historical folk art is now up for sale. It is an antique devotional ring, museum-quality, or a peasant ring from southern Germany or the Alpine region, dating from the 18th / 19th century. The ring’s centerpiece is the oval central plaque in relief, preserved in its original condition. The metal of the plaque shows authentic signs of wear from decades of use. The still-visible outlines suggest that it originally featured a historical relief depicting the Virgin Mary (Madonna), which would be extremely characteristic of this type of religious devotional jewelry. The center is framed on the left and right by two historic deep-blue glass fillets. The ring is perfectly intact; no stones are missing. The exterior of the band is masterfully adorned with a relief pattern of flowers and tendrils that runs all the way around the ring. The material used is bronze overlaid with historic fire-gilding. Over the generations, the gold has worn beautifully on the raised areas, while a deep green, durable antique patina has formed in the deep recesses of the filigree and granulation. The ring is in its original condition, intact and uncleaned. It has deliberately not been polished in order to perfectly preserve its historical and collectible value.
