Charles Schneider – French Glass, Art Deco Vase With Campanulas Decor
Elegant Art Deco vase in multi-layered marbled glass, designed by Charles Schneider for the Le Verre Français glassworks, circa 1922–1925.
This piece features a remarkable decor of stylized bellflowers, etched with acid onto a background ranging in shades from amber yellow to orange and deep red. The purplish-brown motifs, characteristic of productions from this period, stand out elegantly against a satin-finished background in warm tones. The honeycomb frieze beneath the neck is a decorative detail typical of Schneider’s designs from the early 1920s.
The vase is crafted from multi-layered acid-etched blown glass, a process emblematic of the manufacturer, offering great depth of material and a subtle contrast between the matte sections and the glossy motifs. The engraved signature “Le Verre Français” appears on the base.
This creation perfectly illustrates the transition from Art Nouveau to Art Deco, where clean lines are combined with a highly graphic stylization of the plant world. Pieces featuring campanula motifs are among the most sought-after designs from the 1922–1925 period.
