19th-century Bronze With A Bronze-colored Patina On A Red Marble Base By Louis émile Cana
An elegant and touching bronze with a medal patina by Louis-Émile Cana (1845–1895), titled “Premières Tendresses”, depicting a young girl tenderly holding a dove close to her heart. This poetic scene evokes the innocence of childhood, tenderness, and affection—themes dear to late 19th-century academic sculpture.
The work is signed L. E. Cana and bears the title “Premières Tendresses” on the ribbon wrapped around the pedestal. It is also adorned with a plaque “Salon des Beaux-Arts”, recalling its presentation at the Parisian art exhibitions of the time.
The quality of the casting, the finesse of the chiseling, and the delicacy of the facial expression attest to the craftsmanship of Louis-Émile Cana, a French sculptor renowned for his sensitive depictions of children.
The bronze rests on an elegant octagonal pedestal made of griotte red marble, which perfectly highlights the warm original patina.
