Roman Bronze Spoon Of The Cochlearium Type – 3rd Century A.d. – Archaeology
Beautiful Roman bronze spoon of the cochlearium type, dating from the 3rd century AD.
The cochlearium is a spoon characteristic of Roman tableware, recognizable by its narrow, elongated, teardrop-shaped bowl, paired with a long, slender, slightly raised handle. The end of the handle is adorned here with an elegant teardrop-shaped motif resting on two small rings, a typical decoration that highlights the object’s delicacy.
The spoon was made using the lost-wax casting technique, traces of which are still clearly visible on the bowl, attesting to its ancient method of production.
It features a beautiful, uniform, and ancient dark green patina that highlights its excellent state of preservation.
This piece comes from a former Dutch collection.
