English George III Mahogany Writing Desk - 19th Century
A George III-era English naval desk made of solid mahogany with boxwood (or lemonwood) inlays, designed to be carried in an officer’s cabin. The double-flap top, covered in its original green leather, folds down to reveal a large writing surface, allowing it to be used as a closed console desk as well. The front features two lockable drawer compartments, adorned with oval bronze handles characteristic of the style, while the top of the tabletop folds down to reveal a compartmentalized pen tray.
In good condition, suitable for use as a console table or desk, typical of late 18th-century English naval cabinetry.
