"Flanders Tapestry – Greenery With Wading Birds – 18th Century"
Large Flemish wool and silk verdure 17th-18th century depicting an animal scene in a wooded landscape. Its composition shows an undergrowth populated by moorhens and wading birds, evolving in the middle of dense and stylized vegetation punctuated with foliage, tree trunks and large leaves composing this magnificent luxuriant decor. The tapestry workshops of Flanders, active from the 15th century, notably in Arras, Tournai, Brussels or Oudenaarde, marked the history of decorative arts in Europe. Their production of high warp tapestries, often monumental, was renowned for its richness of detail and the finesse of its materials.
