1900 Legras Vase Decorated With A Monoplane, Art Nouveau Style

A charming and interesting Legras vase decorated with a monoplane flying over a village.

It’s always fun and interesting to come across these old vases that reflect their era and the technology of the time. Indeed, designs from the 1900s were often floral or featured vast natural landscapes. Yet these motifs haven’t changed—a rose remains a rose, a lake remains a lake, and a nasturtium flower doesn’t change over time—so we don’t realize just how old pieces from that era really are.
Here, we are struck by the fact that this vase is indeed about 125 years old, with its charming enameled monoplane featuring white fabric wings and the small village below, rendered in gold. The design is enhanced by a gilded frieze around the neck and even another small monoplane in the background. Also note the lovely plum color, which contrasts sharply with the airplane’s wings.
