Painted Limoges Enamel Depicting A Saint, In A Rare Gilded Bronze Frame – Late 16th Century
Limoges enamel on copper depicting a saint with a halo holding a book and a flask, a work from the late 16th century. The plaque is preserved in its rare, finely molded oval gilded bronze frame—a type of framing much less common than wooden or ebony mounts, which is what makes it so interesting. The enamel has a few visible cracks and small chips, consistent with its age. The reverse side retains old collector’s labels. A beautiful piece from the French Renaissance.
