Ewer In Brown Glazed Terracotta, Known As The
Charming terracotta ewer with deep brown glaze, characteristic of production in Çanakkale, the Turkish port from which these pieces were exported in the 19th century.
This feminine model, recognizable by its open beak forming a wide mouth, features a slender silhouette enlivened by applied decoration in relief. The neck is embellished with pastillages and stylized flowers, while the handle elegantly links the shoulder to the body. The richly glazed surface reveals subtle variations in hue and material, testifying to artisanal craftsmanship.
These objects, often referred to as "demoiselles d'Avignon", were imported to France via the oriental alcohol trade and found their way to the great southern fairs, notably Beaucaire
