Polychrome wooden reliquary bust of Saint Helena, with original gilding. Mother of the Roman Emperor Constantine the Great, who died in 330.

According to legend, she sought out and unearthed the relics of Christ’s Passion, bringing the Nails and a fragment of the Cross to her son Constantine.

First half of the 19th century. The relic niche at the base is empty.

Previous restorations to the right corner of the base, and minor signs of wear from the passage of time.
