Ceramic Lamp By Juliette Derel And Jean Rivier, With Original Lampshade
Artist: Juliette Derel (1918-2007) Jean Rivier (1915-2017)
A very rare lamp with a free-form, anthropomorphic, and organic design by these great ceramic artists of the 1950s and 1960s.
This lamp was created between 1953 and 1959 (a collaborative effort) at the Vallauris studio.
Undoubtedly the most inventive period in terms of forms and materials.
This lamp is in its original condition from that era; the beige silk shade has never been removed from the base. It is also quite rare to find a complete set.
The free-form design, featuring multiple intertwined branches, creates an effect (depending on the viewing angle) of a couple entwined in an embrace.
The white-ground patina with gilded highlights provides a truly unique way of capturing light.
Enamel signature on the base: J and J Rivier
A truly beautiful decorative object from the Vallauris period of Picasso, Anton Prinner, Chagall, Miró, and many others...
