Red ceramic with a clear decoration according to a process patented by this artist (first sculptor for one of the greatest masters of contemporary glass, René Lalique).
Roger Mequinion (1905-1985) invented a process for which he filed a patent in 1942. Several layers of enamel in different colors are applied to a terracotta, earthenware, porcelain or stoneware support, which is covered with a protective layer (usually gelatin)... before tracing the contours of the pattern to be obtained. He then uses sandblasting, mechanical means (milling the layers) or acids to successively destroy one or more planes each covered with a colored enamel. This reveals a relief pattern, in varied shades, sometimes even an openwork decoration.
Piece signed: R.MEQUINION in the decoration, and Bt SGDG on the back.
