Admitted to the École des Beaux-Arts in Paris in 1914, he wasa student of Fernand Cormon and Jean Pierre Laurens; then, after servingas a volunteer during World War I, he returned to Cormon’s studio in 1919and worked with Charles Fouqueray before setting up his own studio inMontmartre in 1923. He discovered Brittany in 1924, a region that would have a lasting influence on hiswork. He exhibited at the Salon desArtistes Français, where he won numerous awards, including a medal in1927 as well as several prizes for his “colonial” works. Appointed painter to the Navy in 1931 andpainter to the Armed Forces in 1945, he is best known today for hislandscapes of Finistère and maritime themes. His paintings feature prominentlyin public collections.
