Elisée Maclet (1881-1962) Watercolor "cancale" Brittany

Watercolor, signed BD, located in "Cancale," with a barely legible inscription: "the departure of the..."? 32 x 23 cm (sight size). Note some minor foxing. A quintessential Montmartre painter, his art, similar to that of Maurice Utrillo, developed through contact with Montmartre artists in the 1920s. He frequented or crossed paths with the regulars of the Butte: Max Jacob, Utrillo, Picasso, Apollinaire, Dorgelès, Mac Orlan, etc. Known for his numerous views of Paris, he also painted views of Brittany, like this one, during a stay in 1929-1930. Many of his works were purchased in the 1920s and 30s by international collectors and are now in museums.
