A Piece Stamped By Guillaume Schwingkens (master Craftsman, 1740 / D. 1760), Dating From The 18th Century.

A Louis XV-period marquetry chest of drawers, featuring three drawers in three rows on the front, accentuated by a slight curve characteristic of this period.

Beautiful ornamentation in chiseled gilded bronze, with finely crafted drawer pulls and lock plates.

The piece is topped with a marble slab that perfectly follows the chest’s contours.

A few visible gaps in the marquetry, particularly around the legs, are worth noting but in no way detract from its elegance and charm.

A piece of fine proportions, both decorative and easy to place in any setting.

Stamped “G. SCHWINGKENS.” under the marble slab and on the back on the left side.

G. Schwingkens, a cabinetmaker of German origin, settled in Paris during the Regency period. He likely obtained his master’s certificate at the beginning of Louis XV’s reign. He first worked on Rue du Faubourg-Saint-Antoine before moving his workshop to Rue de Charonne around 1745.

His work consists primarily of Louis XV-style chests of drawers and corner cabinets, all featuring harmonious proportions. His furniture is made of veneered wood, sometimes embellished with marquetry, and adorned with high-quality gilded bronze fittings.

It is worth noting that the Louvre Museum houses a remarkable tomb-style chest of drawers in satin-finished veneer by this cabinetmaker.
