The city of Kashan has long been a center for high-quality carpets; nearly one in three residents is employed in carpet making, and more than two-thirds of them are women. The carpet-making process begins with a design, created by drawing on a range of established styles, featuring motifs of flowers, leaves, branches, animals, and scenes inspired by Persian history.
Carpets from the city of Keshan (Kashan) or Kachan are known throughout the world. They are famous for their quality, which is undeniably among the best. In the Persian Empire, the city was considered one of the most important centers of trade. Kachan carpets typically feature a central medallion and floral motifs in various colors.
