Silver court sword from the Louis XVI era—18th century (1770–1780).
Silver hilt, decorated with diamond-point motifs and a floral medallion.
Oval pommel decorated with floral medallions and a riveted knob.
Tang featuring two central medallions with floral decoration.
Engraved joint arch with a central floral medallion.
Engraved crossguard and donkey’s foot, as well as the escutcheon featuring the same decoration.
Hallmark on the lower ring of the tang: “Fermier Généraux,” and a second hallmark on the ring of the double crossguard: “AC.”
Openwork double crossguard engraved on both the inner and outer sides with the same floral decoration as the entire mount.
Triangular blade, 85 cm long
Sword without scabbard.
Length: 101 cms
Blade width at the heel: 1.8 cms
Silver swords were awarded to elite units or were crafted for high-ranking military or civilian officials.
Royal etiquette required nobles and all those who had served in the military to carry a sword, following the decision of the Council of War on November 17, 1716.
