Important Gilded Bronze Clock Signed
A grand and elegant Louis XVI-style mantel clock in finely chiseled and gilded bronze, dating from the Napoleon III era, around the mid-19th century.
This remarkable clock features a female figure draped in the classical style, seated gracefully beside the dial, accompanied by a cherub. The ensemble is crowned by a globe symbolizing Time, Science, and Knowledge.
The circular white enamel dial, featuring blue Roman numerals, is signed “Balthazar – Paris.”
The composition rests on a rectangular, architecturally styled base richly adorned with friezes, foliage, and finely chiseled classical motifs. The piece is crafted from high-quality bronze and features a luminous gilding that is exceptionally well-preserved.
The movement is a 19th-century Parisian movement with a bell chime, visible through the original openwork rear door. The mechanism is complete, with both the pendulum and bell present.
This clock captivates as much with its decorative qualities as with its generous dimensions, giving it a remarkable presence.
