Large and heavy wrought iron key, once hung from an iron bracket, serving as a distinctive sign for a locksmith’s workshop in Southern Germany.
This is a fine example of highly accomplished folk art, illustrating the full craftsmanship and technical skill of blacksmiths from 18th–19th centuries.

The ring, baroque style, is cut, turned, engraved, and forged, showcasing a wide range of iron working techniques.
As visible in photo 2, traces of former gilded and silvered patinas can still be seen depending on light.
The bit, with a cross-shaped opening, is characteristic of Nuremberg safe keys, reinforcing authenticity and historical interest of the piece.
