Trompe-l'œil Of Revolutionary Assignats
Artist: Tardieu
A beautiful print depicting a trompe l'oeil of assignats, with a beggar in the center, after Jacques Callot, colored in watercolor.
In excellent condition with regard to the color, the engraving is mounted and stretched onto canvas and a late 18th-century wooden stretcher and framed in a natural wood frame veneered with walnut. There are a few minor imperfections in the veneer on the frame.
On the assignat in the lower right corner, the words “Gatteaux inv.” and “A Tardieu sculpt” can be read on either side of the statue of the Republic.
The engraving alone measures 60.5 x 49.7 cm.
