A self-taught artist, he was employed
at the National Library in Paris. Felix Fénéon took notice of him early on, in 1891, at the exhibitions of the Société des artistes indépendants, and later at the “Impressionists and Symbolists” exhibitions organized by Barc de Boutteville.
The artist was rediscovered during the exhibition Les Peintres de l’âme. Le symbolisme idéaliste en France, held in Brussels in 1999.
