Walnut Gondola Armchair, Early 19th Century—directoire–empire
A gondola-style armchair dating from the early 19th century, crafted from walnut. The frame features a characteristic wraparound backrest that extends into sleek armrests. The seat and backrest are upholstered in old rose-colored velvet, secured with upholstery tacks. The chair rests on a four-legged saber-leg base, each leg fitted with casters.
Condition: The piece shows signs of age and should be purchased with full knowledge of its
Woodwork: Multiple signs of wear, scuffs, and small scratches throughout the walnut (particularly on the ends of the armrests and the legs).
Cracks and structure: Presence of cracks related to the woodworking process, including a clearly visible vertical split in the center of the upper panel, at the back of the backrest (visible in the second photograph).
Restorations: Traces of past damage and previous restorations on the frame.
Upholstery: The velvet shows signs of wear, scuffing, and some sagging in the seat. Discoloration of the fabric is also noticeable.
The brass casters are oxidized and weathered over time.
