Antique Silver Chalice By Jacinto Carreras. Barcelona, Spain, Circa 1840.

Beautiful Spanish silver chalice made in Barcelona around the year 1840 by the silversmith Jacinto Carreras, an antique piece with a truly elegant presence and a quality that is immediately noticeable. The entire chalice is made in silver, with the cup in gilded silver, which provides a very attractive visual contrast. The silhouette is slender, balanced and very harmonious, with a clearly Neo-Gothic aesthetic.

The base presents very interesting decoration with great symbolic content. On it appear four religious medallions, one dedicated to Christ crucified and the other three representing the theological virtues, Faith, Hope and Charity. These images provide iconographic richness and give the chalice a deeply devotional character.

The knop and the stem fully follow the Neo-Gothic taste of the whole. The knop presents winged cherub masks surrounded by architectural decoration and motifs inspired by Gothic tracery. The chalice has a very rich appearance and is highly characteristic of 19th century Catalan religious silverwork. The gilded cup preserves a very beautiful appearance and uniform gilding. The lower part appears decorated with a border of engraved stars, a detail that brings elegance and perfectly accompanies the rest of the ornamentation of the chalice. The contrast between the white silver of the body and the warm tone of the gilded cup also creates a very visually attractive combination.

On the base it preserves the hallmarks of the silversmith Jacinto Carreras together with the Barcelona punch, details that allow the identification of the piece and place it within 19th century Barcelona silverwork. These hallmarks provide authenticity, historical interest and significant added value for collectors and lovers of Spanish sacred art.

As for the condition, it presents very good preservation and an excellent appearance. The chalice maintains all the strength of its decoration and preserves an elegant presence. It is a very interesting piece for a sacred art collection, to complete a liturgical ensemble or for anyone looking for an antique Spanish silver chalice with good iconography, known hallmarks and a particularly attractive Neo-Gothic aesthetic.

It is also a magnificent piece to be used again in worship, for a priest, a parish or even for a priestly ordination, thanks to its elegant presence and the nobility of its materials. It may also fit perfectly into a fine collection of sacred art or 19th century Spanish religious silverwork. An antique chalice of great beauty, with excellent appearance and a particularly attractive Neo-Gothic aesthetic.
