Bird And Cherry Micromosaic, 18th Century
A remarkable circular micromosaic depicting a multicolored parrot, with tesserae arranged in a scale-like pattern that accurately captures the texture of the feathers. At the center of the composition, the bird, seen in profile facing left, stands firmly on a branch that appears to be part of a tree rooted in the ground. It holds a double orange-hued cherry in its beak, leaving one behind on the branch. The entire piece is set against a background of white tesserae encircled by a dark blue frieze featuring white circular motifs.
Attached wooden frame with gilded brass trim.
