A series of four oil-on-canvas paintings depicting the Allegories of the Four Seasons.
French school of the second half of the 18th century, circa 1780.
Each season is represented by a young woman accompanied by her traditional attributes: flowers for Spring, a sheaf of wheat for Summer, grapes for Fall, and a brazier for Winter.
This high-quality decorative set follows in the tradition of the great French allegorical decorations inspired by the circles of François Boucher and Charles-Joseph Natoire.
Canvases have been re-stretched, and one canvas was cut to fit into wood paneling (see the virtual canvas restoration essay)
