Georg Friedrich Haendel, Large 19th Century Bisque Statuette, Sèvres (in The Spirit Of)

Large biscuit statuette depicting Georg Friedrich Handel - 19th century
In the Spirit of Sèvres

Large white bisque statuette depicting composer Georg Friedrich Handel standing in early 18th-century garb.
The musician is represented in a noble, theatrical attitude, dressed in a long, broad-cuffed justaucorps, topped with an imposing curly wig, holding rolled sheet music under his arm. At his feet are several music books, one of which bears the inscription "SAMSON", a reference to the famous oratorio composed by Handel in 1741. The terrace is titled "G.F. HAENDEL"

The treatment and finish evoke the historicist productions of the second half of the 19th century, in the spirit of English decorative cookies or Parisian creations close to the manufactory....Samson, precisely

Born in Halle, Germany, in 1685, Handel moved to England at an early age, where he became one of the most famous composers of his time. A contemporary of Bach, he enjoyed immense success with his Italian operas and later with his great English oratorios, including Messiah, Judas Maccabaeus and Samson. His music, admired for its dramatic power and melodic richness, had a profound impact on the history of European Baroque music. A prestigious figure in 18th-century London, Handel remains today one of the greatest composers of the Baroque era.

This rare decorative sculpture illustrates the 19th-century taste for great composers and illustrious figures of the arts, much appreciated in libraries, music salons and amateur cabinets.
