Each coaster portrait, inspired by silk painting, depicts a Yuan-period empress identified by an inscription: 大元寧宗皇后 - Empress Ningzong of the Great Yuan, wife of Emperor Ningzong (1326-1332), and 大元順宗皇后 - Empress Shunzong of the Great Yuan (Shunzong or Toghon Temür, brother of the former, was the last Mongol emperor who reigned in China from 1333 to 1368).
Painting made in China probably in the second half of the 20th century.
