The Golden Age, Darmon 1941
Artist: Darmon
The Golden Age, oil on panel by Darmon. Signed and dated on the back 1941.
In a landscape reminiscent of the Pont Neuf and the equestrian statue of Henri IV on the tip of the Ile de la Cité in Paris, a naked woman and man, modern Adam and Eve, dressed only in white cloth, face each other in poses inspired by classical art.
We have not found any information on Darmon. His style is reminiscent of the strange and poetic style of the painter Amédée de la Patelière (1890-1932). We know from the annotation on the back that he was a student of the cubist painters Albert Gleize (1881-1953) and André Lhote. (1885-1962).
