This charming painting is reminiscent of Neapolitan gouaches in its composition and color palette.
In the foreground, two figures in traditional costumes gaze out at the bay, which is outlined by the city, its houses, and its castle, with smoking Vesuvius in the background. It is effective; the scene is set, but what strikes and enchants is the light… the sea is calm and clear, the sky is blue as in Italy, despite a somewhat simple style.
