Mennecy Soup Bowl
Artist: Duc De Villeroy à Mennecy
A soup tureen with its lid and stand, made of soft-paste porcelain at the Duke of Villeroy’s factory in Mennecy around 1770. Featuring stylish twisted handles, the tureen is decorated with bouquets of fruit and flowers, a motif that is repeated on the stand and the lid. The lid handle is also rendered in trompe-l’œil.
Marked ‘DV’ in low relief on the underside of the tureen and the reverse of the stand.
This decoration stands out from the usual Mennecy production, as the soup tureen is not part of a table service and can therefore feature this rarer and more unusual design.
Date: circa 1770
Dimensions:
Diameter of the stand: 19.9 cm
Width of the bowl: 15.5 cm
Height: 11 cm
Condition: good
