Gothic Revival Crucifix In Gilded Bronze And Cloisonné Enamel
Neo-Gothic-style crucifix made in the second half of the XIXᵉ century by the prestigious Ferdinand Barbedienne firm. The cross, adorned with rich cloisonné enamel plaques decorated with rinceaux, fleurons and motifs inspired by medieval art, is enhanced with red cabochons imitating precious stones. The finely chased gilded bronze Christ stands out from this ensemble of remarkable decorative quality.
The reverse retains its original F. Barbedienne label, a precious testimony to its origin. Barbedienne, a precious testimony to its provenance. This work perfectly illustrates the XIXᵉ century taste for the revival of medieval religious art, driven by the neo-Gothic movement.
