Ceramic Dish, Palissy Suite - Pré d'Auge / Vallée d'Auge
High-relief glazed ceramic dish, inspired by the works of Bernard Palissy.
On the reverse, an old handwritten label mentions "Pré d'Auge" or "Vallée d'Auge", as well as a dating indicated "16th century".
However, based on our research and stylistic analysis, it appears more likely that this dish is part of a 17th-century production, in the continuity of works inspired by Bernard Palissy.
The Pays d'Auge in Normandy, rich in clay soils, has a ceramics tradition attested as early as the Middle Ages, with utilitarian and decorative production developing over the centuries and enriched by stylistic influences stemming notably from the Renaissance.
