American-themed Romantic Dagger - Early To Mid-19th Century - Spain, Circa 1840
Rare American-themed romantic dagger, dating from the early to mid-19th century.
Originally Spanish, this piece features a tapered 14.75 cm blade, with a flattened diamond shape. The handle, in heavy cast bronze, is richly decorated. It features a pair of opposing quillons in the shape of dog heads, surmounted by a trapper or frontiersman dressed in early 19th-century fashion, carrying a long flintlock rifle, a fringed gibecière, a powder horn, as well as an animal-skin headdress and traditional breeches.
The dagger is preserved in a matching heavy molded scabbard, decorated in the same spirit with scenes depicting Native Americans, dogs and mythical creatures.
The set is in excellent original condition, with a beautiful old patina, with no damage or missing elements.
