Antique Oil Painting Signed Charles-louis Müller
Superb oil painting on canvas, signed lower right, after the famous French artist Charles-Louis Lucien Müller. The composition is inspired by Müller's famous dramatic painting, L'Appel des dernières victimes de la Terreur, depicting prisoners at Saint-Lazare during the French Revolution.
This atmospheric scene, rich in emotion and detail, shows figures gathered in a prison interior, awaiting the fatal call during the last days of the Terror. The painting features a deep, dark palette, beautiful age-related craquelure, and a very fine decorative presence.
Presented in an ornate gilded and ebonized frame, this work would be perfectly suited to a traditional interior, French country house, Gothic, dark academia or antiques-inspired decor.
