Very fine copy.
L'Immortalité occupies a pivotal place in Milan Kundera's work, being the last novel he wrote in Czech before switching definitively to French. The novel delves into existential themes dear to the author, such as the quest for identity, memory and the superficiality of the modern world, which he summarizes through the concept of "imagology" (the reign of the image over reality). By blending fiction, philosophical reflections and the author's direct interventions in the narrative, the work represents the culmination of his novelistic technique of the polyphonic essay.
We never learn why and how we annoy others, how we are sympathetic to them, how ridiculous we seem to them; our own image is the greatest mystery to us.
