Antique Lacquered Plant Fiber Asian Rice Pot - Southeast Asia - 20th Century
Very large and spectacular Asian handcrafted storage pot, probably intended for storing rice or dry goods.
Traditional work from Southeast Asia, probably Thailand, Burma or Laos, dating from the mid-20th century.
This stunning piece features a lightweight structure of woven and coated plant fibers, entirely hand-decorated with large stylized floral motifs in earthy brown, deep black and saffron yellow hues.
The very organic character of the object, its surprising lightness, its smoky patina as well as its blackened interior testify to an ancient and authentic use near a traditional hearth.
The four-lobed floral decoration, repeated on the body and lid, evokes the rural folk art of Southeast Asia.
The ensemble exudes a remarkable sculptural presence, somewhere between ethnographic object, folk art and wabi-sabi aesthetics.
The original lid is made from a single piece.
The original lid is preserved.
Manufacturing irregularities, traces of use and natural wear participate fully in the charm and authenticity of this singular piece.
A beautiful decorative object for contemporary interiors, collectors' homes, cabinets of curiosities or characterful residences.
