With over 60 years of artistic practice, Alain Thomas is recognized as the leader of "naïve-primitive" painting, with a strong presence in private and public collections, and the author of illustrations for no fewer than 18 books. Alain Thomas remains an atypical painter, whose work evokes both the exuberance of Douanier Rousseau and the precision of naturalist plates, the profusion of the Flemish school and the richness of medieval illuminations, the elegance of Palesh lacquer and the finesse of oriental miniatures. Sensitive to the preservation of natural environments and the protection of endangered species, Alain Thomas is passionate about the toucan, whose species he has been cataloguing since 1995. With the support of the L.P.O. (Ligue de Protection des Oiseaux) and the W.W.F. (World Wildlife Fund), he inaugurated a 125 m2 mural of a toucan in Nantes in 1996. The artist's animal paintings illustrate bestiaries whose texts are written by ornithologists and professors at the Muséum National d'Histoire Naturelle. Alain Thomas' works have been successfully exhibited in Paris, New York, Chicago, Palm Beach, Tokyo...
